Hindalco, Videocon get nod for SEZs

NEW DELHI: The Central Government on Friday approved 25 more special
economic zones (SEZs), including Indonesia's Salim Group's proposal for
setting up two SEZs in West Bengal at an investment of Rs. 12,500 crore.

The Board of Approval (BoA) for SEZs gave formal clearances to eight
proposals and in-principle nod to 17 others, out of the 88 considered
for SEZs in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

With this decision, the total number of formal approvals has increased
to 189 and in-principle approvals to 145, an official release said.

Salim Group

The proposals by the Salim Group-promoted New Kolkata International
Development Pvt. Ltd. to set up one multi-product and one chemicals SEZs
in West Bengal with an investment of Rs. 12,500 crore was given an
in-principle approval. The SEZs will be spread over 9,000 hectares.

Three proposals from Videocon Realty and Infrastructures for two
multi-product and one electronics SEZ in West Bengal and Hindalco
Industries' 2,025 hectares aluminium SEZ in Sidhi district of Madhya
Pradesh were also given in-principle clearance.

Suzlon Infrastructure's SEZ for high-tech engineering (Coimbatore) and
Lotus Footwear Enterprise, contract manufacturers for NIKE Shoe
(Thiruvannamalai) in Tamil Nadu received the formal nod.
