Ahmedabad , Nov. 13

The Supreme Court today dismissed a special leave petition (SLP) challenging land acquisition procedure by the District Collector for the Jamnagar-based special economic zone (SEZ), being set up by Reliance Industries Ltd.

According to a company release here, the dismissal of the SLP, filed by Mr Shah Kantilal Depar and others, has come as an impetus to the State Government's approach and development of SEZs in Gujarat.

Earlier in October, the Gujarat High Court had also dismissed special civil applications by the same group of people against the RIL's proposed SEZ in Jamnagar and had held the land acquisition procedure of the district collector as proper and flawless.

The Supreme Court dismissed the SLP, however, subject to the rights of the compensation payable to the farmers under the various provisions of the Land Acquisition Act, the RIL release added.
