JAMSHEDPUR, FEB 4: Jharkhand's first special economic zone (SEZ), which
is to come up in the industrial area of Adityapur, is awaiting a final
central environmental clearance. Once the clearance is obtained, the
developer will start putting up the required infrastructure.
"Some issues are pending and those will be sorted out before the
February-end," said the Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority
(Aiada) managing director, Ms Vandana Dadel, at an interactive session
here on Saturday. It was organised by the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce
& Industry.

Jamshedpur Utilities & Services Company (Jusco) and Gamon India will
jointly develop the SEZ dedicated to the auto sector through a special
purpose company, Adityapur SEZ Ltd. The developers will jointly hold a
51% stake, while the public sector, Aiada, will have an 11% stake.

Though new SEZ rules suggest that an industry-specific (other than IT)
SEZ can come up only on a minimum of 100 hectares, the proposed one in
Adityapur will be set up only on 90 acres. The entire land is already in
Aiada's possession, which gives the SEZ a clear advantage over others.

According to Ms Dadel, around 50-60 acres would be allotted to units
that would come up in the SEZ, while the rest would be needed for
infrastructure and other facilities.

IL&FS Infrastructure Development Corp manager Dinesh Arora said the
capital cost for mandatory infrastructure would be around Rs 23.83
crore. Another Rs 71.57 crore would be needed for infrastructure and
other facilities.

Around 550 units are housed in the industrial area of Adityapur, witha
majority of them supplying parts to Tata Motors and other auto majors in
the country and abroad.
