Focus on SEZs, issues of land utilisation

Seminar on business, development begins today

MALAPPURAM: Government College, Malappuram, will conduct a national
seminar on `Emerging issues in the business environment and their
implications for development' here on Wednesday and Thursday. The
departments of Commerce and Economics of the college will jointly
organise the UGC-sponsored seminar.

N.S. Bose, chairman, South Malabar Gramin Bank, will inaugurate the
seminar.

Principal K.K. Mohamed will preside. K.J. Joseph, senior fellow of the
Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram, will deliver the
keynote address.

The seminar will focus mainly on setting up of SEZs and the issue of
land utilisation, corporate entry with FDI and the retailing scenario
and mergers, and acquisitions and competitiveness.

Anandakuttan Unnithan from the Indian Institute of Management,
Kozhikode, will present a paper on `Emerging trends and challenges in
retailing.'

Joseph Thomas, head, Department of Economics, Government College,
Manimalakunnu, will speak on `Ethics and capital and market.'
