NEW DELHI, NOV 17 : In an another attempt to teach the Manmohan Singh
government some lessons on special economic zones (SEZs), the CPI(M) has
reiterated that India can model the Chinese way.
In the third part of a series of articles to be published in the
forthcoming issue of the party's organ Peoples Democracy, politburo
member Sitaram Yechury has said there are no SEZs in China today where
there are restrictions on movement of people or where labour laws and
other laws of the land are not applicable.

“There are 54 economic development areas in China . None of these is
state within state as propagated. The situation there is far from the
‘truth’ that pundits of neo-liberalism in India would want us to
believe,” the article said. It is based on his recent visit to China .

On farming land, he said, “All land in China is government property.
Even the peasants are given land on contracts for specific period. So,
the question of acquiring land from peasants does not arise.” He said
development works were on at marshy swamp lands.
