BERHAMPUR: Plans were on to transform resource-rich South Orissa into a
hub of industrial development, said speakers at the southern regional
conclave on entrepreneurship growth strategy held in the city on
Saturday. As per the recently declared industrial policy resolution of
the State Government Rayagada-Gopalpur area has been identified as one
of the five major industrial corridors of the State.

Gopalpur port is on its path to get converted into an all weather port
with plans of establishment of an SEZ near it. The industrial policy
provides special incentives for KBK districts as well as Kandhamal and
Gajapati districts of south Orissa.

Speaking at the conclave, which was inaugurated by Berhampur MLA Ramesh
Chandra Chayau Patnaik, Ganjam District Collector Sanjay Singh said
proposals had already been sent to the Centre for establishment of
industrial clusters for Kewda units, cashew processing, and automobile
units in Ganjam district. Two more proposals would be sent to the Centre
for establishment of granite cutting and polishing units and Ayurvedic
medicine units in the district.
