VADODARA, JAN 10 : Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC)
has started the exercise to set up Special Economic Zone for ceramic and
glass at Zagadia in Bharuch. Sources in GIDC informed that the
corporation would acquire 170 acres of land for this sector specific
SEZ. Apart from other facilities, units to be set up in the proposed SEZ
will also be provided with facilities like water supply, common affluent
treatment plant and polluted water disposal facility. Informing that
this world class SEZ will provide all the necessary infrastructure
facilities, sources said that the corporation plans to complete the work
by June 2007.
Considering the importance of fuel cost in profitability of any ceramic
and glass manufacturing unit, GIDC is also working on providing natural
gas supply to manufacturing units to come up in the SEZ. “The
corporation has already started inviting expression of interest from
various units and companies, said Nayan Raval, general manager,
Projects, GIDC, adding, “As of now around 15 players have shown
willingness to set up their units in the SEZ and they have demanded 120
hectares of land.” GIDC is also hopeful of attracting more players in
the SEZ in future. South Gujarat is an industrially developed region and
all the infrastructure facilities are available in the region and all
the units in ceramic and glass SEZ will also have the advantage of using
existing infrastructure. However, Patel showed his inability to provide
estimate of investment to be brought in by interested units.
